According to recent official figures, Government of Canada will issue 5% less immigrant visas in the year 2011 as compared to number of visas issued in 2010. This reduction in immigrant visas will mostly affect parents and grandparents as the annual target under this family sub-class has been reduced to 11000 from 16000 immigrant visas. This reduction will seriously impede the unification of parents and grandparents with their children in Canada and will further add up to already inhumanly long waiting time and would have serious emotional implications for the divided families. Immigration Lawyers and Immigration Consultants have expressed serious concerns about the implications of the reduced visa targets.

The numbers of immigrant visa in skilled immigration category will also reduced from 70000 to 56000. The skilled category has been a cornerstone of Canadian immigration policy for many years. Two years ago substantial changes were introduced by the current Canadian Citizenship and Immigration Minister and a priority occupations list was created which would be reviewed on annual basis. In June 2010, an annual cap of 1000 applicants was also tagged with the reduced 2010 priority list. All such measures have seriously hampered the flow of skilled immigrants to Canada and highly skilled foreign nationals are turning to other countries with more liberal and open immigration policies.

Under the above changed and tightened Canadian immigration regulations, it has become inevitable and indispensable to seek the advice of an experienced immigration professional at every step of the process from making an educated decision to seek Canadian immigration to eventually being successful in obtaining the Canadian immigration.
