Prince Edwards Island Provincial Immigration Program

This small province has four categories of provincial immigration program that have been developed considering several fundamental factors involving community and economic benefits. Currently there are only two provincial immigration programs that are active, as other two are being reviewed by the authorities and are suspended.

1.    Immigrant Partner Category

This is an investment based category aimed at attracting foreign investment. Presently this category of the provincial immigration program is being reviewed by the Prince Edward Island’s government and is suspended.
   
2.    Immigrant Entrepreneur Category

Foreign entrepreneurs who have viable plan to establish a new business in the province are eligible to apply for permanent immigration visa under this provincial immigration program. Presently this category of the provincial immigration program is being reviewed by the Prince Edward Island’s government and is suspended.

3.    Immigrant Connections Category

To seek permanent immigration visa under this program, the prospective applicant must have any of the following relationship connections living in the province who could commit to provide optimum help to the applicant in settling and finding a compatible employment in Prince Edwards Island.

Eligible Family Connections to nominate or sponsor:

•    Daughter or Son
•    Brother or Sister
•    Niece or Nephew
•    Aunt or Uncle
•    Grandchild
•    First cousin or
•    Step relative or in-law of the same level

The principal applicant must meet the connection, settlement and employability criteria to be eligible to apply for permanent immigration visa under this category. The connection in the province must meet the following requirements to be able to suggest a particular applicant to apply for permanent immigration visa:

•    Must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident having lived in the province for more than two years with good personal record.
•    Must have a constant source of income sufficient to support the family.

The applicant must prove a solid intention of permanently living in the province, and either has an offer of employment or has identifiable employability in the province.
4.    Skilled Worker Category

A principal applicant with specialized skills and experience who fills a labour market need in Prince Edward Island can qualify for permanent immigration visa under this category of provincial immigration program, provided the prescribed eligibility criteria is met by the applicant.

Skilled Worker Program Nominee Criteria
 
•    Must obtain a score in the vicinity of 50 on the province’s Self Assessment calculator.
•    Education and training should be consistent with the position offered.
•    Must have a genuine offer of employment from a local employer.  
•    Must have a moderate command of English or French.
•    Must have a genuine intention to settle in the province.

The principal applicant under the provincial immigration program may be required to visit Prince Edwards Island for a pre-employment interview.
