The Canadian Parliament’s committee on Canadian immigration and citizenship has recommended replacing the current regulatory body of immigration consultants called Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) with a new regulatory body by the name of Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC). Canadian Immigration Lawyers and Canadian Immigration Consultants have been anxiously waiting for the announcement by the Immigration Minister. Though this announcement was expected since December 2010 when the bidding process which was held as a result of the earlier announcement of Honourable Mr. Jason Kenny, Minister for Citizenship and Immigration Canada, it has initiated the process that many licensed immigration practitioners hope would lead to a more transparent regulatory regime unlike CSIC which was hijacked by a gang of unwanted few since its inception in 2004. The credible and honest Canadian Immigration Consultants and Canadian Immigration Lawyers who always wanted to be regulated in order to maintain their professional credibility have always been extremely apprehensive of the blatantly unprofessional governing practices of CSIC board which was ridden with rampant cronyism and worked in a very undemocratic matter. The governing regime of CSIC had turned so arrogant and parochial that they would not only threaten their genuine critics rather they would involve them into contrived and fake suspensions using arm twisting tactics. Though being members of any provincial law society, it is not required for the Canadian Immigration Lawyers to be members of either CSIC or ICCRC, they were also anxious to see a regime that would regulate the practitioners in the same field of law.
With the above stated background, the inception of a new regulatory body is a very positive and bright sign that all the prospective or current applicants for Canadian immigration would feel more confident in relying on the practicing members who have good professional standing and an aura of trust and confidence would be further enhanced in the market. It is imperative for any foreign national who has been planning to seek the expert opinion of a reliable Canadian immigration professional in order to ascertain his/her chances of Canadian immigration or who is looking to retain the services of a licensed and experienced Canadian immigration professional that he should make sure that such professional is a member in good standing of the new regulatory body i.e. Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council.
